Originating from the Sous Valley, the Berber rwâyes tradition spread from Taroudant and Agadir towards other Berber regions: Ouarzazate, Tiznit, but also Marrakech, Essaouira and Casablanca. In his Survey of Moroccan music (1939), Alexis Chottin talks about the choreographical science of the rwâyes. That is to say that, apart from the instrumental performance of fiddles and lutes, besides the sung poetry full of images and vividness, the ensemble indulges in a real and complex ballet performance.
This anthology is devoted to the memory of the great rwâyes of the 20th century: Haj Belaid, Bubakr Am-Marrakshi, Mbarek-u-Bulahsen, Lhusayn Janti, Ftuma Talgoursht, whose songs are performed by their heirs: Mbarek Ammouri, Ahmad Amentag, Raqiya Demseriya, Muhammad Bunsir and many others.
