MUHAMMAD QADRI DALAL
> Unwonted maqâmat
The lute player Qadri Dalal is one of the last real Arab masters of improvisation in the most authentic vein of this tradition, eventhough he expands the possibilities of this music. He distinguishes himself from most of today's lute players by his vast and intimate knowledge of the Arab modes and he enjoys exploring the rarest ones, seeking new ambiances and emotional states while rigorously observing the rules of improvisation. This approach makes Muhammad Qadri Dalal a key figure in today's Arab classical music scene.
Muhammad Qadri Dalal received in 1988 the Charles Cros Grammy Award.
